About Us
The Concord Hospital Breast Care Center provides comprehensive breast care services to patients who are referred by their health care
provider, Concord Imaging Center, or are self referred. Patients are seen for a variety of breast concerns including a palpable breast
lump, breast pain, nipple discharge, abnormal mammogram or breast ultrasound, breast cancer risk assessment and
counseling, or a personal history of breast cancer.
Sharon Gunsher, MD, medical director, Melissa Hoyt, MD, Christian Wilke, MD and Lisa Delahanty, APRN, MSN, see patients at the Breast
Care Center for a variety of breast concerns and problems. Additionally, the center’s staff collaborates with Dartmouth-Hitchcock Concord
and Concord Surgical Associates surgeons to provide coordinated care. The Breast Care Center is located in the Pillsbury Building adjacent to Concord Imaging Center.
Services Provided at the Breast Imaging Suite at Concord Imaging Center:
- RD Computer Aided Detection (CAD) System
- Digital Mammograms*
- Ultrasound exams
- Breast Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) for high-risk patients
- Stereotactic breast biopsies
- Ultrasound-guided breast biopsies
*Digital mammograms are also performed at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Concord.
Why Choose Concord Hospital?
The Breast Care Center’s one-stop approach to services eliminates having to wait to see a surgeon once a concern is raised from
diagnostic imaging or a clinical exam. If a patient is told that a biopsy is recommended following her/his diagnostic mammogram and/or
breast ultrasound at the Breast Imaging Suite at Concord Imaging Center, she/he is escorted upstairs to the Breast Care Center
to make an appointment with a surgeon or nurse practitioner. At that appointment, a detailed medical and family history, and clinical
breast exam are done, as well as education concerning the results of the imaging studies and the procedure recommended for the biopsy.
The patient leaves this visit with all her/his questions answered, written information to review at home, and
appointment dates for the biopsy and a three day follow-up appointment for results and post biopsy check.
Additionally, Concord Hospital Payson Center for Cancer Care offers onsite cancer genetic counseling
and testing services through a collaboration with New Hampshire Oncology-Hematology, PA (NHOH) and the Dana-Farber
Cancer Instititute (DFCI) Cancer Risk & Prevention Program. The Genetic Counseling Program provides those high-risk
patients critical genetic counseling and testing close to home. DFCI Genetic Counselors are available to provide
expert consultation to patients at the Breast Care Center once a month and a physician from NHOH will offer further
consultation. All cases are reviewed by the team at DFCI Cancer Risk & Prevention Program.
Concord Hospital Breast Care Center has been granted a three-year/full accreditation designation by the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC), a program administered by the American College of Surgeons. Accreditation by the NAPBC is only given to
those centers that have voluntarily committed to provide the highest level of quality breast care and that undergo a rigorous evaluation process and review of their
performance. During the survey process, the center must demonstrate compliance with standards established by the NAPBC for treating women who are diagnosed with the full
spectrum of breast disease. The standards include proficiency in the areas of: center leadership, clinical management, research, community outreach, professional education
and quality improvement. A breast center that achieves NAPBC accreditation has demonstrated a firm commitment to offer its patients every significant advantage in their
battle against breast disease. The Breast Care Center's NAPBC accreditation profile is available online at http://accreditedbreastcenters.org.
