Genetic Counseling Program Print Page

The Genetic Counseling Program, a collaborative effort of Concord Hospital, NH Oncology-Hematology (NHOH) and Dana-Farber Cancer Institute (DFCI), provides high-risk patients critical genetic counseling and testing close to home. A DFCI Genetic Counselor is available, once a month, to provide expert consultation to patients at the Breast Care Center, while a physician from NHOH provides further consultation. All cases are reviewed by the team at the DFCI Cancer Risk & Prevention Program.

Procedure

When you call the Breast Care Center:
  • A brief phone interview will determine if an appointment is recommended for you;
  • You will meet the ARNP to review your personal and family history and to discuss a plan of care. If indicated, an appointment with the DFCI Genetic Counselor will be made to review this information further and to discuss testing;
  • If testing is recommended, you will go to the lab to have blood drawn;
  • If you decide to be tested, a second appointment will be made to review the findings and consider future recommendations with the DFCI Genetic Counselor and the NHOH Medical Oncologist.
